The Pantsuit: Function AND Style

The pantsuit has become one of the most versatile outfits a woman can own.  Pantsuits can be dressed up or dressed down, or both by just changing the top underneath the jacket.  They can look funky and stylish and classy all at the same time.   But what is most important is that pantsuits give you the freedom to move, freedom you cannot get from wearing a skirt or a dress.  Having said that, the pantsuit is highly suitable (no pun intended) to the modern woman. You may find out more about the pantsuit from Wikipedia.

Is Obama’s fashion style frumpy?

President Obama has been in the news a lot lately, and not just because of politics, but because of his jeans! Apparently, the jeans he wore to throw out the first pitch to start off Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game were just not hip enough.

From what is being reported by some media outlets, you’d think he committed a crime. Obama admitted that he’s a bit frumpy.

You be the judge. Frumpy or not? See below for the poll.

Michael Jackson: Fashion Legacy or Not?

Michael Jackson Beat It Jacket Fashion Design BlogWith the sudden passing of music icon Michael Jackson, the media has inundated us with not only gossip about his death but his fashion legacy.

Remember his red jacket with the zippers?  It was everywhere in the mid 1980′s.  I convinced my mom to get my little brother (who was a preschooler at the time) one because it was just so cute to see it on a little guy.  I don’t think my brother remembers it now; he probably didn’t realize it at the time what it was!

Well, that’s my story about Michael Jackson’s zipper jacket.  Almost everyone I meet has some sort of story to tell about that jacket.  We invite you to share your story if you do.

So did Michael Jackson have a big  impact on fashion?  To refresh your memory, here’s an audio slide show from thestar.com showing some of his outfits from his career:  http://www.thestar.com/generic/article/657853

Also, our poll below asks who you think had the biggest fashion impact in the 1980′s.  We would love your input!

Do we care for the earth? Re-use, reduce, recycle clothes

EARTH

Hey all,

Do you know what happens to all the clothes after we throw them away?  How do they meet their end ?  Are they burnt or left to degrade in the earth ???

Can you imagine the number of clothes we buy and dispose every year!  Out of these  large chunks are from man made material sources such as polyester, nylon –do you know it can be recycled !!!

Are these really being recycled or reused in actual -NO !!!  We can do much more to ensure our clothing is  earth and environmentally-friendly -I am sure there are many options!!

We might have seen lots of  T shirts  with print  ”"Re-use, reduce, recycle ” but do we really “”DO IT”"  What do you think !!

Toronto Designers Compensated by DVF

TORONTO CANADA

Toronto Star reports that Toronto designers Jennifer Halchuk and Richard Lyle received compensation from the DVF label for what was deemed a copy of their jacket from their Mercy line.  Article here:

http://www.thestar.com/living/fashion/article/633410

For comparison pictures of the jackets:

It’s nice to read about a designer trying to right a wrong when it comes to copying designs.  But what do you think?  Can clothing designs really be protected?
